Ok, so it would be nice to share some thoughts that are inspiration for paintings that I am creating for Coventry – City of Sanctuary exhibition.
When I moved to Coventry in 2009 I have been confronted with post war city centre, grey and brutal in form, so unfortunate in a city with such a long history. It stroke me how many Coventrians felt unhappy with it, feeling that it dysfunction their home from the beauty and affect their lives and paths that are chosen, their future.
I will always remember one of my students that asked which places are nice and worth to see here said:’ You need to go to train station Ma’am, the best thing about the station is that you can leave Coventry really quickly from there’. This made me wonder how many talented, ambitious, successful people buy one way ticket and leave Coventry forever? How many treats it as a sleep over place, not getting involved city’s live?
With my newcomers eyes I can see old glory of pass days and potential of new through grey routine of everyday journeys and schedules. Coventry as a new home can give stabilization, equality and prospects for the future. Place in the community. All those things that can be easy taken for granted.
