ABOUT THOSE WHO ARE AROUND US
In portraiture it is important to not only produce a likeness. In my portraits I want to express my view of someone. How are they feeling? Are they content with themselves? Is there a hidden anger just underneath their skin? How I feel about them? I try to explore the medium of drawing in order to show those values.
Drawing on a wash of ink or watercolour is my favourite way to work on portraits. It allows the freedom of mark making, sometimes very detail and defining, sometimes vague, almost abstract. I find great pleasure in drawing people, especially if they are close to me.
